What Are Angel Numbers and What Do They Mean? (A Series on Angel Signs)

I’m sure we all heard that at some point in our childhood. It never occurred to me that repeating numbers had any meaning until I hit my Saturn Return (around age 30 everyone will experience the planet Saturn being back in alignment with where it was when they were first born, and the energy of the universe is usually brings craziness for that person at this time).
I just figured that 11:11 was the one and only special repeating number, and it was probably a Disney movie everyone was referencing when they’d call out “make a wish. And tbh, it annoyed me a little.
My inner rebel was like, why can’t I make a wish whenever I want? And the practical-eldest-daughter-me was like, these dimwits… everyone knows you can only make a wish on your birthday…or when Santa’s in town. Pfft.
But during my Saturn Return, my entire spirit went on a tumultuous, albeit necessary, and viciously mystical journey.
Yeah you read that right. Viciously mystical. (This is my attempt at a Fitzgerald-esque poetic modifier because the famous flowery writer and I have a mutual angel number: 9/24—our birthday. More on dates as angel numbers later!)
I remember one day making a decision to “make better decisions.” After all, I was 29, approaching 30 and my life looked good on paper but inside my heart was aching.
And it was as though that radical declaration was a spell from student (me) direct to teacher (universe).
Nearly overnight, I was thrusted into…utterly compelled by the world of quantum mechanics, universal laws, angel signs, mediumship, energy healing, reiki, human design, past life analysis — the works.
I can only explain the experience like walking into a beautifully staged home, nested with delicate antiques, gold-trimmed paintings on the walls, photographs of love captured in action, wool blankets and ruffly pillows, candles flickering everywhere, feeling so welcomed and thinking: I cannot believe this is what I’ve been missing. The warmth. The acceptance.
And overtime as I study and experiment with these spiritual ideas, it feels less like was ever missing something and more like I am remembering what my soul has always known but temporarily forgot.
When you start to see angel numbers, know you are blinking awake for the first time in your life.
What are angel numbers?
One of the first ethereal lessons that found me was angel numbers and signs.
Angel numbers are numbers with significant meaning to you and your life path.
They carry a frequency that enters your subconscious when you become aware of them. Think of the numbers as nudges from the Universe to inspire and guide you.
You know how you give your puppy a little boop on the snoot? The cosmos can do that to your snoot too.
111. 222. 333.
See… right there. That’s a boop.
As I learned from coaches, my bestie medium, and the Internet, I quickly realized that numerology is a toy Taylor Swift has been playing with for years, sooo obviously Mother is onto something. She knows what we all take for granted… numbers hold meaning and significance. And when they come from the big energy upstairs… they have the power to change your life.
How do I spot angel numbers?
You’re going to freak out when I tell you this.
If you see a number after reading this post and think to yourself, I wonder if that’s an angel number, it is.
It’s not just repeating numbers. It’s all numbers. But especially numbers that have significance to you like:
✨ Your birthday
✨ Your pet’s birthday
✨ Passed loved one’s favorite number
✨ A completely, totally & stupidly random number you stared at a littleeeee too long
The universe is always trying to communicate with you. You just have to pay attention.
Even individual digits are messages. Repeating numbers are the ones we talk about the most because they are so potent. For example, the repeating ones amplify the power of the digit 1 which signifies new beginnings, initiative, ambition, independence and fresh starts.
If you’re completely new to this stuff, then at the very least you will know repeating numbers are your beginners Angel Comms (as we say in corporate-girlie world…because Comms = Communications, get it?)
How do I decode angel numbers?
For my newly woo-people, or woo-adjacent folk, when you see repeating numbers, know your subconscious is picking up on wisdom from other realms. Decoding isn’t required. (Though if you want to investigate, I will share my beloved decrypter resource in my next post!)
And more importantly, trust that seeing these numbers isn’t random or accidental.
Being in the presence of repeating numbers, or ANY number that gives you pause or you see more than once, is a tap on the shoulder from your angels. Or whatever you want to call the mystical, divine forces that are greater than the mind can conceive.
Angels. Guides. The Universe. God. Motherload. Source. Bruce Almighty. ;)
This is the part that made my “inner knowing” light up and 11:11 finally feel important to me.
It’s not tween naivety or mere pillow talk to look for or wish on angel numbers. In fact, it’s the exact opposite. These signs are a nod from something so much bigger than all of us. It’s communication from the greatest energy source that ever was. So, of course, you can use them to make decisions, guide your path, get inspiration. (More on this in the next few posts!)
When I first learned this, I felt as though anytime I saw one (which started to happen more and more as I did this research…thank you to my RAS) that I had to Google the meaning and decipher what the universe was trying to get me to do, or say, or think.
I would obsess over “what does this mean?!”
And sometimes I still do that. But now with I do so with an enchanted levity, assured that my subconscious is taking it in and there’s isn’t more for me to do… just more for me to see.
Now, years into actively designing my life, co-creating with the universe, and conspiring with angels (one of which is my own Mom—Hi Deb!), I’ve learned that just acknowledging an angel sign is as good as deciphering it.
You don’t need to dig so deep and analyze. We do so much of that hunched over Excel during our drab 9-5s. Contact with angels doesn’t require STRAT plans, right-sizing, or meticulous assaying. Though I totally get the draw to investigate, which is partially why I am writing this post! It’s a beautiful part of the human experience —the need to meaning-make, but what’s more important is that you understand the foundational messages of angel numbers:
You’re being guided
You’re being protected
You’re doing everything right
You’re right on time
You couldn’t mess it up if you tried
Guidance is always available
Anytime you see an angel number, you don’t need to rush to Internet to investigate (although you can, because it’s fun and sometimes it’ll really blow your mind what the number sequences mean).
What’s more important is a keen recognition that the veil between you and your highest timeline is getting thinner—that the creator itself is saying:
“Hi. I love you. I see you. Keep going. I’m helping you get where you need to go.”
