Let's Wire Your Brain For Magic (A Series On Angel Signs)
A conversation about your brain's reality filter, angel signs, PT Cruisers, and why awareness is the key to manifesting magic
I used to be surrounded by skeptics in my world. They’d shit on my dreams or try to embarrass me for wanting to learn tarot or reiki. These people are what kids would affectionately describe as buttheads.
When I would talk about angel signs or spiritual side of things, the looks I would get would range from disgust to pity. It would make me feel 2 inches tall. I am no longer available for those types of people in my community. However, when I would meet a curious skeptic, we’d have wondrous conversations about where logic meets magic. It’s in those conversations that I realized mystics and scientists are having the same conversation when it comes to how we create our reality…they just use different words.
Meet Your Brain’s Reality Filter
You may have heard of the RAS from the Mel Robbins podcast, or if you’re like me you learned about it a class called Brain and Behavior during an attempt to be a psychology major back in the day.
The RAS is the part of your brain that acts as a reality filter. The RAS is the reason you start to see something pop up everywhere, when just a short time ago, the something wasn’t a part of your reality at all.
Ever notice how you talk about a car with a friend, likeee let’s say the PT Cruiser, and then you see that car everywhere?
I’m betting now that I just brought up the PT Cruiser, the once coveted Chrysler beauty that went off the market in 2010, you’re going to see one in the next few days… if not multiple.
Even though you haven’t thought about PT Cruisers EVER before reading this article, I would be willing to put money on one appearing in your reality if I say it enough times in this post.
Your brain is so powerful that bringing your awareness to something causes it to start looking for that thing. It expands your field of perspective and is now scanning the environment for that thing — you just don’t know it because it’s happening subconsciously.
The Respectable Skeptic Argument (and Why It’s Just Shy of Missing the Point)
So why am I bringing this up on a series about angel numbers? It’s because skeptics will say angel numbers don’t mean anything because it’s simply your brain doing its job. Once you talk about angel number, they are appearing because it’s your RAS showing off!
You’re only seeing “angel signs” because you saw one repeating number and now your brain is on the look out. (Insert image of SpongeBob Mocking Meme lol)
My response is: that’s the whole point.
It’s very likely there have been PT Cruisers in your presence before reading this post and you never even noticed. That doesn’t mean they didn’t exist. But now your RAS is going to flag PT Cruisers, because I’ve written it at least four times now.
Awareness Is The Inflection Point
This is why it’s so important to spend time dreaming, visualizing our future, go to the places and be with the people that already have what we want in life. This is why I tell folks it’s mission critical to talk out loud about the desires of your heart.
When you bring acute awareness to your wildest dreams, your brain is going to be on high alert for opportunities that match.
Everything you could ever want exists, you just have to attune your awareness to it.
This is my intention of writing these posts: bringing attention to the fact that the universe can and does talk to you.
Think of it this way: Your angels have a megaphone and they’ve been yapping in your direction your whole life. However, your RAS was too busy paying attention to the more direct, in your face, voices of society, politicians, your Mother, LinkedIn, the Zaddy in your Zoom box.
But something is about to shift for you just by reading this. If your RAS was a cute little puppy, its ears would be going up right about now. It’s adjusting the dials on your filter to some new beliefs and is now on the look out for confirmation that:
Angels exist.
Miracles are normal.
Signs are everywhere.
Guidance is everywhere.
Guidance is Can Come Instantly
These are the truths I have fully leaned into as I continue to walk this Earth as a soul having a human experience. These are the truths I harden as I see more and more angel signs every single day.
Guidance is always available as soon as you believe it is.
Guidance is always available as soon as you become aware that it is.
Guidance is especially available as soon as you invite it in.
Once you see one angel number, call it out, appreciate it, maybe even write it down or tell a friend and you’ll just have opened the floodgates.
This is an invitation for your brain’s filter to say:
“Oh, okay, we’re going to be open to, and invite in, communication from the universe. Miracles. Synchronicities. Blisses and kisses from the angels themselves.”
This Is Where Life Gets Infinitely More Exciting
This is the path to leading an enchanting life.
This is the beginning of being OPEN to opportunities and miracles you never thought were possible.
This is the beginning of believing there is something so mysterious and grand at play here and it’s asking you to dream bigger and be guided.
The crazy part is that you can talk back to the Universe.
You can make wishes, ask questions, set the rules, choose your signs, break contracts, and open up an entirely new reality.
So, if you choose to believe, just for today, that the Universe has been trying to contact you, but you get to set the rules… what signs would you choose? What would you finally be brave enough to ask for?
